Proluton Depot 250mg/ml ,is a synthetic hormone similar to natural female sex hormone progesterone.It is used in prevention of spontaneous abortion in women with recurrent miscarriage. Spontaneous abortion occurs when body levels of progesterone drop below the required level to maintain pregnancy. There this injection is used to maintain these levels.
Infertility Due to Corpus Luteum Insufficiency:
In cases in which the luteal phase is short, a situation characterized by a too short-lived increase in the basal body temperature in the second half of the cycle, Proluton Depot brings about secretory transformation of the inadequately transformed endometrium, thus improving the chances of nidation. IM injection of Proluton Depot 250 mg should be given about 3 days after the rise in basal body temperature. Since there is often a coexisting estrogen deficit, endometrial priming with an estrogen should be carried out (eg, for 14 days) before beginning treatment with Proluton Depot. Thus, a physiological transformation of the endometrium can be achieved.
Don't use in case of :
- Diabetes
- Monitor the medication level in the blood during pregnancy ( use with care)
- Current or previous liver cancer
- History of herpes infection during pregnancy
- Difficulty in breathing (dyspnoea)
- Cough
- Pain and irritation ,redness, swelling at the injection site
This medicine should not be used if you are allergic to one or any of its ingredients.
It should be deep IM injection, preferably intragluteal, alternatively into the upper arm. The injection must be administered extremely slowly.It is advisable to place a plaster over the injection site after the injection to prevent any reflux of the Proluton Depot solution.
